Orientation Information for Scholars

J-1 Scholars

Orientation is a very important part of your exchange visitor program, and is required by U.S. Department of State regulations. You must attend a J-1 Scholar Orientation session at the International Students and Scholars office no later than 7 days after your arrival to Fayetteville. To reserve a place in one of the orientation sessions, please use our online scheduling system. When you come to the office for your orientation session, you must bring your passport, DS-2019, I-94 (you will receive this upon entry to the United States and can retrieve it at www.cbp.gov/i94), and proof of insurance. If you have dependent family members accompanying you in J-2 status, they are welcome to join you at the Scholar Orientation session.

H-1B Employees

If you are an employee in H-1B status, it is important for you to have an H-1B Consultation appointment with a scholar advisor at International Students and Scholars once your initial H-1B petition is approved, as well as when any extensions or amended petitions are approved. You and your hiring department will be notified when you need to schedule this appointment, and you can reserve an appointment time by using our online scheduling system.

TN Employees

If you are a new employee in TN status, please schedule an appointment with a scholar advisor at International Students and Scholars upon your arrival to the University of Arkansas, so that we may review your immigration status documents and update our records for you. You may schedule an appointment by using our online scheduling system.
